Morocco Earthquake Response

On September 9th an earthquake struck central Morocco. The biggest city impacted was Marrakesh, but the most severe impact was in the mostly mountainous and rural regions of south-central Morocco. In these locations about 3,000 people were killed, and tens of thousands of people lost homes and possessions. This area of the country is mountainous, and the nighttime temperatures are very cold even in summer. With autumn and winter approaching shelter, food and life support assistance was of critical importance. Agility provided funding to Amis des Ecoles so they could quickly construct a tented school, complete with a kitchen and bathrooms, for 100 kids to make sure the earthquake did not keep the kids away from learning. In addition, the Amis des Ecoles team procured and distributed critically need items including shelter, clothing, blankets, life support essentials and food for 120 families – including 600 children – in need of assistance.
